AH. You guys. I can't believe this day has finally come!! I could not POSSIBLY be more excited to be a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the next 18 months in Recife, Brazil!!
I just wanted to make sure you all knew that I received word that I have not yet received my Visa, because Brazilian Visas for missionary work are pretty hard to get right now. However, I wanted to explain the way this works for those of you who are not familiar with the LDS missionary process for missionaries waiting on foreign Visas.
First things first, I am still leaving on my mission on Wednesday, July 31st, as planned. Just instead of getting six weeks of training in the Sao Paulo Missionary Training Center (MTC) in Brazil, for right now, until I get my Visa I will be at the Provo, Utah MTC for my six weeks of missionary training (learning Portuguese, about the Brazilian culture, how to best teach the gospel, & etc). If my Visa comes through anytime during my six weeks of training in Utah, I will leave within a few days to finish my training in the Brazil MTC.
However, if I still don't have my Visa by the end of my six weeks of training, I will be re-assigned temporarily to a stateside mission here in the USA (and my address and information will be updated on this blog accordingly).
Once my Visa eventually does arrive while I am "in the field" (which means out of the MTC), I will wait until the end of the transfer period (every six weeks or so, the missionaries move to a different location within their mission and that is called a "transfer") before departing to Brazil.
Like I mentioned above, getting a Brazilian Visa right now is really, really difficult. I have a number of friends who are waiting on their Visas to Brazil - some who have been waiting as a missionary since as early as March. But I also have friends who have not had any Visa delays, and are already in Brazil as missionaries! So, long story short: there's really no way to tell exactly how long it will take for my Visa to be processed and issued for my use. So any prayers will be greatly appreciated to help the process move along, if you'd like to! But no pressure, of course. Just wanted to keep you all posted. :)
Okay, that's it for now. This is my last post - after this it will be just my sister, Ruth, updating the blog for me and putting my emails and pictures that I send home up here. However, if you have any questions at all (or just want to say hello!), feel free to email me at email@example.com OR you can write me a letter at the addresses posted on the left-hand side of this blog. :)
I love you all so SO much!! Thanks for all your incredible support and I will see you in 18 months!! :)
Sister Sarah Elizabeth Kron
Full-Time Missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints :)
On March 15th, 2013, I opened a letter that has already changed my life forever.
I have been called to serve as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! I will be serving for a period of 18 months, from July 31st, 2013 until (approximately) January 31st, 2015. I will prepare to preach the gospel in the Portuguese language, as I serve the people in Recife, Brazil!!
While on my mission, I will not have access to any types of social media, such as Facebook, Skype, or texting. However, I will be sending one email home to my family each week (with stories + photos from the past week), which my sister Ruth will then post here, on my mission blog!
(Note: Although I can't Facebook, Skype, or text for 18 months, that doesn't mean I can't still stay in touch. We can be pen pals the old-fashioned way, if you'd like! My current mission address will always be posted here on the left-hand sidebar of my mission blog, and trust me when I say - I would LOVE to hear from you, at any point while I'm away so we can catch up! :) You can also email me at ANY time at: firstname.lastname@example.org
I could not possibly be more excited to serve as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! If you'd like to learn more about what I (and other Mormons) believe, feel free to click here, or type in the address below:
Best wishes to all of you + I will see you again in January 2015! :)
